Bullpen Island Fire Department

"Kicking ash, taking names"

Leonard Hawkwind
Fire Chief
Bullpen Island has been fairly prone to catching fire every now and then. After the town got burned to the ground for the third time within a period of 18 months, the Town Council voted to establish a local Fire Department in August 1927. It was led by a fresh immigrant from Denmark, self-proclaimed firefighting expert Ingvar Knutsen, and consisted of 2 volunteer Firefighters.

The department was fairly busy right from the start, but failed to meet its goals. Permanent Firefighters were added and new equipment was purchased, but Bullpen Island seemed to burn as much, if not more, than ever.

Eventually, a co-operative effort between Danish Kriminalpoliti and Bullpen Island Police Service exposed Chief Knutsen as an internationally wanted criminal and a pyromaniac. Knutsen was tried on the spot, and promptly stoned to death. His successor Richard Stroker was much more successful, and ended up serving as the Chief for over 30 years.

Leonard Hawkwind started as the Bullpen Island Fire Chief in 2001. The greatest challenges of the new millenium have been balancing the budget amidst radical cuts to funding. Necessary equipment purchases has led to cuts in staff; currently the Fire Department employs one full time Firefighter, two Fire Hosers, and one part time Office Assistant.
